Tripura has taken a significant step toward securing its critical power infrastructure by becoming the first state in Northeast India to strengthen power grid cyber security with a world – class certification. The Tripura State Load Dispatch Centre (SLDC) recently received the prestigious ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certification for its cyber security management systems, marking a major achievement in regional power sector digital defense.

Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath announced the milestone during the second foundation day of the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) in Agartala, highlighting the state’s focused efforts to ensure robust protection against rising cyber threats targeting electric grids and operational technologies. The certification is part of national guidelines issued by the Central Electricity Authority (CEA), which mandates stringent cyber security standards for all SLDCs across India.

According to officials, Tripura’s SLDC underwent a thorough System Surveillance Audit conducted by Standardisation Testing and Quality Certification (STQC). The audit identified and addressed key vulnerabilities related to biometric access controls, intelligent threat detection, VESDA smoke systems, user identity management, and physical security. After corrective measures, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India, awarded the certificate.

“This achievement reflects Tripura’s commitment to modernising power sector technology and safeguarding essential infrastructure,” said Minister Nath. He added that power plays a fundamental role in state development and that digital enhancements such as online load – shedding management, smart meters, transparent billing, and 24×7 customer service now strengthen grid reliability and consumer trust.

The government also shared plans to further enhance power distribution by laying underground cables throughout the entire Agartala Municipal Corporation area. Officials believe this move will improve network resilience and support long – term energy security.

With cyber attacks on utility systems increasing globally, Tripura’s proactive focus on cyber security sets an example for other states and positions it as a leader in power grid defense and digital resilience in the Northeast region.
