In an era where cybersecurity threats loom large, Amazon Web Services (AWS) has launched AWS Security Incident Response, a new service designed to help organizations swiftly recover from cyberattacks. The launch addresses a pressing need in the corporate world: effective incident response plans. Recent statistics show that only three in five companies have an incident response strategy, and fewer conduct regular drills to ensure its efficacy.
The financial stakes of poor cybersecurity planning are staggering. According to the International Monetary Fund, global cyberattacks are projected to cost over $23 trillion by 2027, a sharp rise from $8.4 trillion in 2022. With these growing threats, AWS aims to simplify and strengthen incident response efforts for businesses.
AWS Security Incident Response integrates seamlessly with Amazon GuardDuty, AWS’s threat detection tool, as well as third-party cybersecurity systems. It provides a centralized dashboard where organizations can triage threats, monitor active incidents, and review metrics such as response times. Customers can also enable proactive features that use customer-specific data to automatically remediate issues or escalate unresolved findings.
Hart Rossman, AWS’s VP of global services security, emphasized the service’s potential to alleviate the complexity of traditional incident response programs. “AWS Security Incident Response offers a single source of truth for managing security incidents,” Rossman said.
What sets AWS’s service apart is the inclusion of its dedicated customer incident response team. Businesses already using AWS security tools may find the service especially convenient, as it integrates fully with existing AWS solutions. Early adopters like the PGA Tour have already implemented the service.
The incident response market is on the rise, projected to grow from $21.61 billion in 2022 to $89.09 billion by 2030. By entering this space, AWS positions itself as a key player in helping organizations combat the growing tide of cyber threats.
